Backerkit and Magical Kitties Save the Day!
almost 5 years ago – Thu, Jul 18, 2019 at 12:35:15 AM

Backerkit and Preorders

Backerkit is up and running! You should have received an email from them yesterday. If you don’t see one, search your email for “backerkit”, then try the survey recovery page here. If you’re still having problems, let me know at kyla at atlas-games.com. Please don’t hesitate to contact me directly if you have any questions or issues.

The backerkit preorder store is live now, too, so you can share this link with anyone who might have missed the kickstarter. -> https://gloomofthrones.backerkit.com/hosted_preorders

Magical Kitties Save the Day!

Atlas Games is also proud to announce that Magical Kitties Save the Day is live on Kickstarter! It showcases everything we at Atlas Games believe an all-ages roleplaying game should be.

  •  It's easy to jump into.  Even the youngest players can create their own amazing kitties in just a few minutes and a solo play graphic novel means you can start playing within moments of opening the box. Once you start, deceptively simple core mechanics keep the action moving at a furious pace.
  •  It's fun for everyone. Careful development, rigorous playtesting, and finely-honed mechanics mean Magical Kitties is a delightful romp into a world of whimsy and wonder — for everyone.
  •  It's a great way to learn to Game Master. A tutorial GM's adventure and plenty of helpful advice teach anyone to run the game for their friends.

If you like roleplaying, kitties, or games you can play with your kids, then Magical Kitties Save the Day is the game for you. Learn more here!

Production Update with Juicy Pictures!
almost 5 years ago – Thu, Jul 11, 2019 at 11:00:23 PM

Production samples of the cards, the deluxe box, and player trays have been made and pictures follow this update. And it is looking fantastic! I love the colors in the player trays, and the box is looking beautiful with the UV gloss. The cards really start to pop when they're on clear plastic!

We’ve had some issues with how the plastic and chipboard slot together for the player trays. The thickness of both the plastic of the tray and the chipboard for the mat affect the fit, and it needs to be spot on so that they’ll hold together while you play. In the first round of samples, they didn’t meet that test, so we’ve made some revisions and we’re ordering another round of proofs to make sure it’s  right.

A second round of physical proofs does mean that there may be some delay. I’ve never worked with parts with such close tolerances before, and I should have forecast extra time in the schedule for this. I’m hopeful we’ll still be able to deliver in November, but I wanted to let you know what to expect.

Backerkit is ready to launch very soon! I haven’t forgotten.

Enjoy some juicy pictures.

Some Time Later
almost 5 years ago – Tue, Jun 11, 2019 at 10:08:16 PM

We wrapped up our Kickstarter campaign for Gloom of Thrones on April 29th. You helped us greatly surpass our $20,000 funding goal, instead raising over $71,000 in four weeks. Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported the project! Here’s what we’ve been up to since then.

Off to Press!

Getting a game to the manufacturer seems like a lot more work when I’m doing nothing else for a month, but I just told you in just three words. It is a bit unusually complicated to get off to press, though. Because of Gloom’s transparent cards, the files are exacting. Each piece of art or design for the front of the card needs to line up perfectly with the back, and there’s a special white layer that needs to go in between them. Right now, people at Cartamundi are checking to make sure I did it all right and the files and colors will work with their presses. This is the fourth Gloom game I’ve done the layout for, so I’m feeling pretty good about it.

The clear cards aren’t the only thing that made this more complicated, though! The deluxe edition is off to two different manufacturers. LongPack will be making the roaring box and the player mats. Right now they should be making molds based on the designs by GameTrayz. They’ll use those to form the plastic of the player trays and box inserts. The Porcelain Throne token is made at yet another factory. All those pieces are going to be shipped here to Minnesota and hand-assembled before being shipped out to you.

Pledge Management

Maybe the deluxe edition sounds too cool, and you’d like to upgrade your pledge. Maybe you need an extra Porcelain Throne token to stuff some stockings.

It’s not too late! We will be launching Backerkit sometime in June. You will be able to upgrade and add on to your gloomy heart’s content, or even order some of our previous Gloom games to keep you busy ‘til November.

Gloom Player Mat and Wallpaper

Speaking of keeping busy by playing previous Gloom games, I’ve uploaded the core Gloom player mat art as a printable. It’s best printed on 11x17 paper. Staples did a nice job of printing it on cardstock, trimming, and laminating it for me, for my prototype.

And if this summer is just too bright and sunny for you, I uploaded it as a desktop wallpaper, in standard and Retina.

You can download any of that right here.

Stay Tuned

Now I’m off to work on those awesome stretch goals you helped unlock.

Stay tuned this summer for:

  • Gloom of Thrones Player mat printables
  • Create-Your-Own cards on DriveThruCards
  • Digital rules and interactive tutorial on Dized

Plus the usual behind-the scenes stuff like press proofs and pictures of our warehouse as we ship things out to you guys.
